Samsung SH-182D vs SH-182M - what gives with the quality?

Postby MonsterMan on Thu Sep 28, 2006 7:33 pm

Ok, now I figured the 182M was just the 182D with lightscribe enabled; same actual drive hardware.

But, old 182D:

Ok, me like.

And new 182M:

I didn't see much point in finishing the scan.

WTF happened? I am not happy right now. The 182D I had would freeze randomly with Verbatium DVD-Rs about 50% of the time. The 182M does not, but the quality is horrible.

Same batch of discs, too.

Edit:
Double
Seems the quality of the Verbatium discs has been swapped. The 182D did horrible with the +Rs, great with the -Rs. This 182M is the opposite. Although it's +R quality isn't as good as the 182D's -Rs...

The +Rs, at 18x:

the SH-182D and SH-182M both have the same firmware revision (SB02) ?
this supports that they're the same drive basically.
maybe your SH-182M is a bum drive (like your first SH-182D was) ?

I can't be that unlucky, can I?

Oh wait...yeah, I can.

Still, it burns the +Rs way better. And does better on the Maxell DVDs I've got. So I guess I'll stick with it until the LG 18x drive hits the states.

already has.
check the LG forum @ cdfreaks, there's a link somewhere there to a place that sells the GSA-H22N.
here is the topic that discusses the H22N:

specifically (for purchasing it):

also, it's possible to flash H10A/N to H12N (!!!!!) using a modified TDB firmware :D :D :D
check out the discussion @ cdreaks.

I'll wait for Newegg to get them in stock. I've never ordered from those places before. Better yet, I'll email my contact at LG. :D

while you're at it ask him about the H12N too.

also ask him if there will be H22L, H12L versions and E12N/L, E22N/L versions ?

The guys in the US typically don't know what models are going to be available until they show up over here.

If Dell or someone asked for the feature, I'm sure they'd do it. For now though, they don't want to support it.
