LG GSA-H10N DVD-writer - quick question

Postby Ghostdog on Mon Oct 09, 2006 2:54 am

I´m guessing a few people here have this drive. I´m thinking of getting it as well.

I´m just wondering what kind of noise levels this particular drive produces. At least compared to other similar drives (mainly Lite-On´s).
It´s strange that the CDRlabs review doesn´t go in to the acoustics of products.

I would prefer a somewhat quiet drive.

Thanks.

I used to mention this, but it's a fairly subjective topic. What might not be loud to me, may be loud to someone else.

Well it´s partially subjective, yes. But if a drive (or any other component for that matter) is noticeably louder or more quiet than other similar products, people tend to notice. The old GeForce 5800 is an example.

I was just looking for some opinions on the matter.

well, i have a GSA-H10L, which is basically the same drive as the H10N (with the addition of LightScribe).
it's just as quiet as other drives i have.
a little quieter than Toshiba SD-M1712 DVD-ROM.
not as quiet as my BenQ DW1620, but i was running a CD and the BenQ was quite slower than the LG and Toshiba drives so it's not a fair comparison.
noticably more quiet than the LiteOn LTR-52327S CDRW.

bottom line - reasonably quiet. no complaints as far as i'm concerned.
(and BTW my case isn't soundproof in any way, by design nor my any modding. and it's side panels are open).

OK, thanks for the input dodechaedron. I think this is the drive I´m going to go with - since I´ve been hearing good things about LG lately.
