I need to swing by CC and pick up 2142 Battlefield. That's the best price I've seen so far.

Yeah, I saw that. The whole spyware thing has been overblown. From what I've read, it simply reports your IP. It doesn' report your surfing habits, cookies, etc. Some people are just paranoid.

It's just a slippery slope, and the way EA helpfully provides for you to opt out-- by not playing the game-- has pissed off a lot of people.

The arrogance among media companies is really astounding right now.

Well, when you have politicians on your payroll, you can do pretty much what you want.

The thing that gets me most is that EA still wants $50 for the game when they're also getting paid by companies to run in game ads.

Like one person said in a thread "apparently there will be Dodge truck and Neon ads in 2142"

If they're going to force us to see paid advertisements, the game should be free.

One word: usenet.

But, Pha-Q to EA - I'll never buy another game from them.
BenQ 1655, BenQ 1620, LG 4167, Plex PX-716SA, Samsung SH-S162L, SH-S182M, Pioneer 111D, Lite-On SHM-165H6S and 1.9TB of HDDs to feed 'em and an X2/4800 to crunch for 'em.

Yeah, but then you can't play it online. That's the best part of games like 2142.

Can anyone who follows sale prices more closely comment on if that price (~30 cents a piece after tax) for that media is a really good deal, or if it's just one of those one's that comes up every few weeks, and I might do better off by waiting?

Good morning

You might find a better price at a web store if shipping isn't too bad.

$28 per hundred is about as good as it gets at a B.M. store.

FW has a thread about a good deal on them. 36.99 -$14 MIR -$10 google checkout which equals 12.99. You also get $5 off first google checkout purchase if google uses a citibank card, which brings price to 7.99 for 100. S&H is free.
Go to FW and do a search for Verbatim.

The only problem with buying online is you don't know if you're getting CMC-made Verbatim (great) or Prodisc-made (variable; from really good to kinda bad).

I raided my local BB and got the last 3 25-packs that were CMC-made; pushed waaay to the back of the stacks behind tons of Prodisc media. (you can tell by the fonts on the spindle itself; if "OPEN/LOCK" are in a sans-serif font (like Arial), it's Prodisc and if it's in a serif-font (like Times) it's CMC)

For 16X Videohelp says they are either MCC or TY. I bought -R and they are identified as being MCC03 according to Nero. 8 cents isn't bad for even the truly crap media you use as giveaways to family, and even better for MCC.

But MCC code media is made by Prodisc, CMC and Moser Baer.... so looking at the MID code alone doesn't tell you much.

It's a sans serif, so these may be give away discs then. I'll write one when I get home and see what kind of quality results I get.

I've seen some pretty spectacular Prodisc MCC burns, the issue is that they tend to be much more variable than the CMC made discs.

They're still probably quality than 95% of DVDs out there. :)
