LOL, just read the ad for Staples. Pretty wimpy this week, mostly chairs and printers.

It's about time to start seeing ads for Black Friday!

Office Max

Verbatim silver 52x printable CD-R, 50 for $10.
Verbatim 52x CD-R, 100 for $15.
Verbatim 52x CD-R, 50 for $8.
Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL, 10 for $15.
Verbatim 16x DVD +or-R, 50 for $13.
Office Max brand 16x DVD+or-R, 100 for $20.

Maxtor "One Touch III" (USB) hard drives:
500gb= $250.
300gb= $140.
200gb= $100.
100gb= $100.

XP home upgrade is $50. No mention of a rebate. Not a bad deal but if you don't know, Microsoft has started offering upgrade coupons for Vista with some of the OEM software. When I called NewEgg last week, the sales rep said it will cost $20 to upgrade from XP Home to Vista Home Basic and $20 to upgrade from XP Pro to Vista Business. Can anyone else confirm the upgrade path and related cost?

10-4, Bill!

What I also hate are those Back to School Sales that start right after the 4th of July holiday. :x

Yeah, 10/4...

I expect sometime soon, Christians will have to celebrate the birth of Christ a week early so the Christmas sales don't overlap with New Years..

Trying to remember, didn't you skip Black Friday last year?

Yeah, I did, Bill.
And probably will this year, too.

Just started today and will be done by then. :D

Just got back from CompUSA and bought that Norwood DVD+RW
(BenQ DW1650) that went on special last Sunday at $30, AMIR.

Also, Ralphs/Krogers has a whole stack of those small, but good DVD Players on sale @ $25, NMIR.
I can't recall the brand, but that doesn't matter.
They are identical to those CyberHome players that were sold in the past but are off the shelves now.

The DVD player will keep the DVD writer company on the shelf as I really don't know what to do with them. :(

Hmm, I'll look for that player at Kroger on Monday. We could use a better dual layer player in the bedroom, the current one always chokes.

Have you used any dual layer media, any read issues?

Fry's has what looks like a similar player, Coby brand, on sale at $30, NMIR.

I haven't tried that CyberHome player with SL media lately, if ever, so I'm not sure.

I'll try it when I get a chance and post back.
I always burn with Verbatim DL for large files.

Well, I bit the bullet and bought the Pioneer 710 with the intent of crossflashing it to a 111L. (yeah, I should've bought an OEM drive but I'm lazy, not to mention with the BB 12% coupon it was $43.99 so not too far off Newegg's prices after shipping)

Bill,

Just tried a DL that I burned from captured TV and it looked OK.
Used Verbatim DVD+R.

Slim,

That's good news, thank you :D . Appreciate you trying the Verbatim, that's what I have too..

I'll be in town again today with a friend that has a doctor appointment. We should have the time to visit Kroger and we'll check their stock.

Thanks again,
Bill

I hope not; after I grabbed the H22L a month back it's been pretty disappointing, even after getting a new one. Today's the last day for me to decide what to do with it, I am starting to think I'll just keep it and hope LG gets on the ball with a firmware update to bring it up to the H22N's level. [-o< (and I'll use the H22L for labelling in the meantime)

At least the 111 is the 111 is the 111. ;) If anything, the hacked firmwares seem to burn better than the originals, but overall it seems like a great burner.
