I saw some 4x DVD-R discs at Big Lots yesterday.

Have you tried flashing the firmware? Lite-On has a firmware update for this unit, as well as instructions, and a Recommended Disc List, etc.

You can find it here:

http://us.liteonit.com/us/index.php?opt ... Itemid=153

Select the audio/video category, select the model number and click on search.

LiteOn LVW-5005

Postby Jacobina on Mon Dec 11, 2006 11:09 am

I have noe received a reply from LiteOn that states that LVW-5005 is a 4X writer and will be updated in the future. They never stated when, so how are CompUSA selling the same model this week 12/11/06 if it can only write at4X and discs are are to find . I contacted KHypermadia as I had used their disc's thay offered to sell me 4X in $250 lots they sent the warehouse inventory to pick from . Is there a hack to up the writing speed ,perhaps the LiteOn people on the list Tom and Wind would know

The LVW-5005 does work with newer media. I used 8x and 16x discs with mine all of the time.

What happens when you put in a disc rated at a speed higher than 4x?
