Look what I found in the DW1620 description:

Wish I had some extra money and a place to put it. I'd love to have another scanning drive besides my 716. Does seem weird they magically found this stash of drives, though? I wonder how many they have.

Yeah, I thought it was kinda odd that Plextor started using the 1670 for the 751. I figured BenQ stopped making those awhile ago. Maybe this is all old stock that had been sitting in a warehouse.

How does the 1640 compare to the like Pioneer 111 for burning?

I'm still really tempted to buy it just as a scanner........ :/

(hrm, just saw the 1650's are in stock as well for $37.99-- would the 1640 or 1650 be best as an all-around drive? I vaguely recall that after some FW updates many were thinking the 1650 was indeed a better drive.. do they do PIE/PIF scanning fairly equivalently?)

Most guys say the 1640 is better.

But the 1640 causes PIF-spikes when burn DVD+R @ 16x
