GSA-H10n poor disc readability

Postby amenx on Fri Jan 12, 2007 1:08 am

Whenever I put in a disc, either CD or DVD (usually the latter), the disc is not recognized at first and I get the "please insert disk into the drive" notice. I must eject/reinsert the disc again (sometimes twice or more) for it to be recognized. Firmware is updated to latest version but problem persists. This happens with all media I tried incl TDK, Sony and Memorex. Any idea what the problem may be and how to resolve it? :D

How old is your H10n? Sounds to me that it could be a physical problem, maybe some kind of misalignment. Has it just started or has it always done it?

Thanks, its about 4 months old. This problem didnt seem as bad when I first got it. I think I'll put it into another PC I have to see if the problem continues there as well.

Not long after I posted to you, I experienced some similar trouble with my BenQ 800. I'd been dicking around with booktype settings and running CD-DVD Speed Disc Quality scans on some +RW media. All of a sudden, the drive wouldn't recognise any media at all. I considered re-flashing the firmware, and in preparation for that disconnected my other burner. When I rebooted, the BenQ seemed to have been restored. So you might try taking it out and re-installing it perhaps.

Thanks everyone, problem solved! I replaced the IDE ribbon cable as it appeared quite mangled snaking its way throught the cramped case to the DVD writer. Tested about 6 or 7 usually problematic discs and they were all read without a problem. :D
