Not to worry, Wes.

Cingular is going to be AT&T. :P

Again.

I was AT&T several years ago.
Then when I went down to get an updated phone,
I was told that it was all Cingular now and I would have to get a Cingular phone anyway as the AT&T phones (non GSM) would be phased out.

Now, I'll be AT&T again. :o

Well, that article brings up good points. I too think that this phone will cost a large chunk of change even with a 2 year contract. Then what ever Cingular, soon to be AT&T, will charge for the data plan. Just recently I bought the Blackjack and was happy with the phone. It did do everything I needed. However, I was not happy with the fact that I was stuck with a 39.99 data plan and 4.99 text messages package plus my plan. At least for me, I was not happy paying 45 extra dollars to get Internet access, hell, I pay less than that for DSL Elite. Especially when they have a Media Plan for less and does the same as the above separate plans. Another thing, the insurance was not available. They do not give you the option for insurance. Not good if something happens after the first 30 days or if you lose or damage it. And I don't think that Cingular will sell this phone at a decent price or insure it. Just my two cents.

Whoops! I saw this earlier but didn't have time to reply, and then forgot about it!

That's less than 2 miles from my house, so about 5 minutes or so, and even closer to my work. Less than a mile from my high school as well.

Umm, are you sure?
From what I understand, Cingular (GSM) bought AT&T wireless (TDMA & GSM) and merged it into one big Cingular. AT&T TDMA was already on a phase out path before Cingular acquired them.

Then later on... AT&T purchased Cingular. There were rumors that the name would change BACK to AT&T wireless, but THEN another announcement was made later that AT&T had decided to stick to the Cingular name and brand.

Has it changed again?

All that is that which I've read, about the aquisitions.
However, I hadn't heard about the decision to retain the AT&T name after all.

I'm a big NASCAR fan, of which the top series is now the NEXTEL Cup Series, formerly Winston Cup.
When NEXTEL came in, all current sponsorships, Sprint, Cingular, and Alltel, were grandfathered, but no further cellphone sponsorships would be permitted.
So I read recently that the team that has run a car with Cingular sponsorship the last few years will have to find a new sponsor as it was a Cingular/AT&T decision to change and therefore the grandfathering no longer applies.

Well, we'll see........

Maybe I'll go to my Cingular wireless account and see what it says.

Ok... Last night I saw a commercial on a major TV station. The commercial detailed that "Cingular is now the new AT&T".

I had to laugh...
These guys have bounced back and forth so many times on their brand name that it is just ridiculous now.

Looks like I'll have to get that now that Cingular is going to AT&T. :D

Three years ago, I was an AT&T Wireless customer.
When Cingular bought them, the Cingular told me that I'd be better off in the long run with a new phone. So I downsized.

Now that AT&T has bought me back, I expect they'll tell me that I need a new phone and that the real old AT&T phone won't work nowadays anyway. :(

Outside of that, I am a customer well served. [-o<
