Sony & Fuji CDRs

Postby gm2015 on Sun Jan 21, 2007 12:12 am

1. My local Best Buy here in Brooklyn has Sony CDR 30-pack spindles, which come in red packaging. They are made in Japan. Does anyone know who makes these? Are they Taiyo Yudens? Are they made by Sony? Are they any good?

2. Best Buy and FYE, from time to time, get Fuji 30 & 50 pack spindles which are made in Japan. They come in the blue packing and they are Taiyo Yudens. I haven't seen them in the last couple of months, though. Has anyone seen these lately at either Best Buy or FYE?

All Made in Japan CD-R are from Taiyo Yuden (at least nowadays).
I thought the blue packaging had been discontinued. Sometimes TY discs still show up in the new yellow/gold? packaging.

Not sure what Best Buy or FYE has in terms of Fuji discs Made in Japan, it probably depends on the local store's stock. Fuji/MIJ discs definitely still exist though. As evilboy pointed out, look for Fuji discs in a gold package, remember to look on the wrapper for "Made in Japan." If you can, since stock varies, shop around at other stores. You are likely to find Fuji/MIJ at a number of stores that sell blank media, including electronics stores, music stores, department stores, supermarkets, even pharmacies!
