PIF counts higher that PI in a BenQ DW1650 scan

General discussion about recordable CD, DVD and BD media and write quality testing.

PIF counts higher that PI in a BenQ DW1650 scan

Postby MediumRare on Mon Feb 05, 2007 1:51 am

I was under the impression that the PI counts in BenQ quality scans included the PIF counts as well.

Here is a partial scan of a DVD+RW that contradicts this. The PIF levels are almost double the PI rate- so they cannot be included in the PI counts. (I did a partial scan because the counts rise at the end and obfuscate this information).

I checked older versions of CD Speed back to 3.50 and they all showed this behaviour.

Interestingly, the advanced quality scan differs: here the PIE values are higher than PIF.

You are correct.

This isn't exactly new however, as this post by Erik Deppe over at CDFreaks will show.

In the Advanced Quality Scan the PIE is calculated correctly and includes PIF as described in this post at CDFreaks.

I think I'm just plain overworked at the moment.

I knew that the BenQ did things differently than the LiteOn drives, but I mixed them up- I had a blackout yesterday when I did the scans. In fact, I have a special option in my display tool for KProbe and DVDScan results that will simulate the BenQ behaviour and display PI-PIF!

Sorry for the static here.

Incidentally, I follow the CD.speed discussion at CDFreaks regularly and had read the thread you linked to when it was active. Too bad Inertia isn't active any more.
