LG GSA-H22N | Error! LOGICAL UNIT... SOLVED! :) |

Postby mooselip on Tue Mar 13, 2007 3:11 am

Hello! :)

Got a new LG GSA-H22N (1.02) burner which works great when burning but an odd error happens
when using Nero CD-DVD Speed and Benchmark.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Error!
LOGICAL UNIT COMMUNICATION CRC ERROR (ULTRA-DMA/32) (040803)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Image

I checked the DMA settings in Devicemanager and BIOS and they are perfectly right set,
Sec IDE as Master at end of cabel, Ultra DMA is auto set to 4.

It doesn't matter what DVD discs I try, newly burned or old ones, video or data, different brand
or pressed commercial DVD discs. I always get the same error! Discs are burnt with Nero and
ImgBurn using different burn speed settings.

Got an old Sony DRU-500A (2.1A) as Sec Slave Ultra DMA 2 and when loading the same discs
Nero CD-DVD works just fine.

Using LG and Nero CD-DVD Speed/Scandisc feature reports DVD's has lots and lots of bad and damaged areas,
using the same disc in Sony drive shows only good results, no bad or damaged areas at all.

This error is very confusing and I'm totally out of ideas.
Any help solving this would be very much appreciated.

Do you have it connected to the motherboard or an addon card? If its the motherboard, what type/chipset?

Also, have you tried a different IDE cable?

Hello Ian!

Thanks for replying! :)
Not connected via addon card but directly to mobo SEC IDE as master or slave,
it makes no difference. Tried disconnecting the Sony still no change... :(
Here's my system:
---------------------------------
CPU - P4 2.4 GHz
Mobo - ASUS P4G8X Deluxe
Mobo Chipset - Intel E7205 MCH
- Intel 82801DB ICH4
OS - Win XP Pro Sp2
RAM - 1024 MB
---------------------------------

Will try changing cable, maybe something will happen
but the strange thing is the LG burns just fine?
Wouldn't that fail as well if it's a cable error?
I'll get back when I tried new cables.

Thanks...

Welcome to the forums mooselip!

A few ideas:
If you're using "Intel Application Accelerator", uninstall it or remove and then test again.

Just to confirm:
You have already tested by removing ALL other optical drives, setting the LG at the END of the IDE cable and setting the drive PIN to a MASTER configuration?

Also: Have you tried with a DVD+R disc? If so, does the same thing happen?

Hello again! :)

Problem with LG solved! New cables and all is fine! Isn't that weird?
It burned away just fine at max speed with old cables, it could read
same disc just burned, it read video and data just fine but couldn't
read the very same discs when using Nero CD-DVD Speed!?!?
No more errors! Used Scandisc and got no bad or damaged areas at all!

Thanks Ian for suggesting I change the cable, wouldn't have thought of
that as a solution when LG burner could read video and data just fine
but couldn't use Nero CD-DVD Speed...
I'm really puzzled about this error but veeeery happy it got solved.
Darn cables...

Thanks for your welcome! This is a great forum, been lurking here for some
time, tons of good info, news, tips & tweaks in here!
I searched this forum and somewhere someone mentioned uninstalling
Intel Application... as a possible fix. If I had it installed it would have
showed up somewhere but I couldn't find it and I can't remember ever installing it.
Yep, tried all settings you suggest and a few more, all except DVD+R 'cause
I don't have any of those. Just bought a whooole bunch of Verbatim DVD-R's
and I'm so pleased my new LG GSA-H22N works so well with them, was kind of
worried for a couple of hours my money was wasted, but it wasn't!

Case is closed! :)

Not a problem. I'm glad you got your GSA-H22N working.

Interesting! I had this same problem with the H22N! I installed it on a Dell Dimension XPS Gen 3 PC, connected to an onboard ICH6R Intel controller card. Trying another cable did *not* work (the *other* cable was the cable that came with the drive). Instead, I had to use an ATAPI compatible PCI Ultra ATA controller card and a new 24" IDE cable (since 18" would not reach). I concluded that the H22N was not compatible with my motherboard's IDE controller, period. Apparently, your problem *was* the cable, not an incompatible controller, even though we had the same problem.

Hey tlotz, you might want to try changing up the drivers that you are using for your IDE controllers. Using the generic Windows XP drivers might allow your burner to work correctly.
