Cheap X2's!

Postby roadrunner on Mon Apr 09, 2007 4:45 pm

I sorta hate to pimp AMD chips ATM (I may have one, but I'd prefer a C2D), but damn, they are cheap now. AMD has cut prices big time; all but the 6000+ are under $200. Hell of a price/performance ratio! Even the X2/6000 is looking mighty tempting.

Model____________Old____New
Athlon 64 X2 6000+ $464 $241
Athlon 64 X2 5600+ $326 $188
Athlon 64 X2 5400+ $267 -
Athlon 64 X2 5200+ $232 $178
Athlon 64 X2 5000+ $222 $167
Athlon 64 X2 4800+ $217 $136
Athlon 64 X2 4600+ $195 -
Athlon 64 X2 4400+ $170 $121
Athlon 64 X2 4200+ $159 -
Athlon 64 X2 4000+ $144 $104
Athlon 64 X2 3800+ $113 $83
Athlon 64 X2 3600+ $102 $73

One interesting tidbit: the X2/6000 actually uses MORE power (and thus generates more heat) then the just-introduced QX6800 chip - a quad core, 2.93GHz model. But then again...you can't argue about the price.

Use the code tags and it will look the way you want.

I'm tempted to upgrade my 4200+ to a 5600+. Anyone know if a 5600+ will work on an nForce 570 SLI?

Oh yeah, it'll work fine. Shouldn't even need a BIOS update. Very nice of AMD to make sure that their new chips would work in the old boards (hello, Intel, are you listening? No, guess not).

And sorry about my little rant :-? [/code]

As a side note, Newegg has 2GB of DDR2/667 (Corsair Value Select) for $109...the same price the 1GB kits were in January. Nice...
