LG PC Blu-ray/HD-DVD Combo Drive Preview @ ExtremeTech

Postby Ian on Tue May 08, 2007 7:59 am

Somehow ExtremeTech got their hands on LG's new Blu-ray/HD-DVD combo drive, the GGW-H10N. Not the best preview, but it has some of the first tests I've seen.

Wow, it still has an expected $1000 price tag, an expensive neighborhood. Interesting piece of kit though, but it's not something many people will buy. I'm ready to jump on the bandwagon, come on $200 drives, where are you?

Yeah, the drive is more expensive than the rest of the computer. For the record, the drive writes to BD-R SL media at 4x.. not the 2x stated in their preview. I wish they would have taken the time to run some tests with BD-R media. I know PC Magazine has the money to spend on BD media. :P

I can buy an LG 4x BD-R burner for my PC for $500 CAD, and an XBox 360 add-on drive for $200 CAD. Why would I pay $1200 USD for that? :o
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

You wouldn't and neither will anyone else! This thing is going to flop due to the insanely large price tag.
