I tried to start a thread like this a few months back for the same reason but it died quickly. Nobody cares anymore about cd. I just started reading every review of every dvd burner I could, paying only attention to how well it did as a cd burner. That led me to the Pioneers (I have both the 111 and 112) and Samsung 182. I would never have even considered a Samsung, and there are many better dvd burners, but if you check the reviews, and in my experience, they burn a great cd. LG used to make great cd burners (and dvd burners that burned great cd's) but I don't know what's up with them lately, they put out a new burner every week, and the LG 42 I tried was the worst cd burner I've ever used. The burns I get from the Pioneer's and from a LG 10 I have are as good or better than anything I ever got from my Plextor Premium and LiteOn 52327 - both classic cd burners. So I gave up the search and went with dvd burners that I use only as cd burners, and use other burners to burn the dvd's.

Yeah, Pioneer DVD-writers evry good with CD-R. Liteon isn´t very good in that, only the LG H42 is more worst. Hope LG will getting better, their CD-RW since the 32x were very good imo

For future-proofing, I recommend getting a DVD writer that does well with CD's. And, as has already been pointed out, Pioneer makes good DVD burners that record CD's superbly too. I like the Samsung SH-S182D for CD writing, not so much DVD writing. I stick to my Pioneer, NEC, and BenQ drives for DVD burning.

Believe it or not, the BenQ 1655 burns some nice CDs as well. The scans are dang near as good as the best Lite-On CD burners.

Well, Pioneer are great imho @ CD-burning. But no matter if u buy a CD or DVD-burner, nothing would change dramatically. The CD-R-Makers don´t develope new media, the burner-manufacturer don´t develope anything for CD. And the last CD-burners aren´t great, only a bit cheaper than DVD-burners
