Toshiba has created a particularly unusual mobile phone for Japanese network, Softbank - which seems to be inspired by the Transformers brand. The 3G phone is a conventional model in normal use - but has arms and legs which can be poised to turn the phone into a "robot". It even comes with built-in wallpaper backgrounds to simulate robot faces.

When closed and in normal phone mode, the handset has dimensions of 50x102x16mm, although we are not sure what the dimensions are when it is in Transformer mode. It comes with a QVGA screen, 3.2 megapixel camera and is expected to be launched in late April as the SoftBank 815T PB.

There is also a build in semi-intelligent avatar which talks to the owners and learns over time how to respond to them.

Does it make the Transformer noise when you flip it open?

Used to have a Kyocera smart flip-phone I could customize to do that sort of thing...I think some of the RAZR line can too.
