XP doesn't require a driver for it to be recognized by the system. Can you elaborate a bit more about your problem?

[-X My Dell laptop came w/XP sp2. My optical drive's spindle had a nervous breakdown(went to pieces) so I bought an external DVD brner.
The specs were good so I took the drive home and plugged it in.
Since then I have been unable to access the drive when connected to the Laptop. When I connect to my HP desktop, same specs, the drive works like it auta!
The Dell has 1Gig of RAM, the Desktop has 512megs.
