LG GGW-H20L bd burning error pls help.

Postby eternalkp on Thu May 15, 2008 10:36 am

Hi guys.
this is my current system.

AMD FX60 dual core cpu.
Asus A8N-SLI skt 939
3gb of pc3200 ram
150gb raptor 10k rpm
500gb seagate
500gb seagate
8800GTS G92 gpu
creative fatal1ty sound card.
Dell 30inch monitor.
Windows XP SP3 Professional x86
Nero burning rom 8 ultra.

I want to experiece HD so i bought a LG GGW-H20L.
this drive is supposed to be able burning bluray @ 6X max.
and i read a review of this drive in cdrlabs.com and they can get this drive to burn the verbatim bluray disk @ 6x in about 18min, 22min in pcworld.com

My speed is now way near this. a 25gb takes about an hour or so. I have 3 coasters already. each time with an error message of: Invalid Block Address. and everytime it fails to burn a bluray disk, my system freezes...one core of the cpu is 90% while the other one is idle.
I use Nero 8 ultra...pls help.

i save the nero error log. this is what it reports:

make sure you have a fresh restart in there, i can't stand nero 8 but if thats what you have to use

can you try nero 7? the latest build?

what are you burning? a movie backup or what? if so what did you use to back it up?

3gb of ram? how is that installed? like how many sticks and how big is each stick?

latest motherboard bios?

for me $12 a pop for burning coasters is VERY unacceptable, i would run my machine through every hardware test

memory, HD, stress test, just a full list of tests

memory - memtest 86+
HD - Drive Fitness Test
Stress Test - prime 95 on all cores while looping 3dmark 06
disconnect the other optical drive while burning bluray perhaps just eliminate all possibilities

Normally I'd tell you to update your firmware and/or software but it looks like you're up to date on both.

I haven't burned any Blu-ray discs with Nero 8 but with Nero 7 there was a feature/bug where the software would auto-verify everything it wrote to disc. It made the burn process take twice as long.

Also, do you have the drive connected to the Silicon Image RAID controller?

All of the above suggestions are good... but for goodness sake man, start off by buying a BD-RE (re-writable) disc!! This is a new technology you're working with, and it's expensive. Make your mistakes on a disc that won't coaster on you. Once you've got it down pat, THEN bring on the BD-Rs.

Yeah, they're all onboard but four of them use the nvidia southbridge. The rest are for the raid controller.

Well, it reads AACS protected discs at 4x.. but that's still a lot faster than what youre' seeing.

I'm not really sure what the issue is. I have a similar AMD system and haven't had any problems with SATA optical drives. Do you have another computer you can try it in to make sure its not a lemon?

i am not sure what's wrong with the drive.

i try to Nero SpeedDisk4 with a bluray movie, 300.

the drive never goes beyond 3x...where is my official 6x read?

6x bluray burn takes an hour.

@Ian - those older 939 systems have issues with SATA opticals. My DFI definitely does.. still haven't got my 212 working with it.
He should try using a PCI add-in SATA controller..

Hmm.. its an nForce 4 motherboard. I didn't think that those still had problems.
