Vista and UDF

I purchased an HP notebook on 31 May 2008.
OS is Vista Premium.

Today, I tried using DVD drive for first time.
Drive will not record CD-RW, but is supposed to be able to read them.

Created a CD-R and a CD-RW on another system.

No problem reading the CD-R in the DVD drive.
Using DVD-R media, was able to write on the DVD via Windows.

When I try to read the CD-RW, Roxio pops up and asks to install some Easy
Write critter.
After doing so, when I try to see the files on the drive, all I see is the
UUReader stuff, not the actual files.

This is essentially the same issue I saw back with Win 98 and Easy Creator
5.

How do I see the files on the CD-RW?

The software is the pre-installed Roxio Creator.
Do not know the version.
I'm creating Recovery DVDs now so I do not want to check the version until
after the recovery DVDs have been created.

I thought that Vista had built-in software for reading UDF???

Vista is able to read and write to UDF formatted discs. Any idea what UDF version the discs are using? It's possible that the CD-RW discs is using a version that is not supported natively in Vista. The Roxio software could also be interfering in some way. Have you tried uninstalling it to see what happens?

In the Roxio support forum, I received a [url]response[/url].

I do not even know the version of the Roxio software.
I may never actually need it once I hook up my new router.
I was just testing to see whether the DVD drive could read CD-R and CD-RW created by my Win 2000 system.

Win 2000 system does not have DVD drive, so I'll have to use either CD-R or network to move stuff back and forth.
