Website Will Be Down For Upgrades On September 5th

Postby Ian on Thu Sep 04, 2008 9:07 am

CDRLabs will be down the afternoon of September 5th so that we can switch over to the new website design. If things go as planned, we should be back online in a few hours. Thanks for your patience.

The switch is done and the website is back up. I'm currently working to fix a few nagging issues.

I second that. Much nicer overall appearance IMO.

Yeah, the website has needed an overhaul for a number of years. This new one should hopefully serve our needs for awhile.

Just a few notes.. you can login to the main website using your forum credentials. The benefits here are that you won't see the link ads and your info will already be populated in the comment forms. This plugin is still in development so there may be a couple of issues. I think I have it working though.

Also, the RSS feed is broken. This is a known issue issue with the SEF module we're using (which is also in beta) but I think there is a work around. I'm going to try to fix it this weekend.

If you haven't noticed, we also dropped A LOT of content. The news only goes part way through 2007 and the reviews only go back to 2006. I will be importing more content over the coming weeks, but don't expect to see much that is more than 2-3 years old.

Well anything much older then 2 years in antique by computer standards anyways so probably no great loss and if you do have something older you need to research Google is your friend.
Everything seems to be working , at least on a quick search of new post since I last visited :D

RSS feeds are working on the website again. Along with the news feed, there is now one for reviews. For some reason, I can't get the news one to work with Feedburner.

That's a nice clean new look for main site!. Well done Ian! =D>

I do hope that you make as many of the old articles and reviews as possible available in the revised site, though. Although many of the drives, for example, are old, it's still interesting to see what we were getting excited about a couple of years ago. And unfortunately, as the web evolves and sites are reorganized, a lot of links die and a good deal of our collective experience and knowledge heads for nirvana. :(

One special request on my part is for the article on ASPI programming (was http://cdrlabs.com/articles/index.php?articleid=3) that Alex Noe cites in his guide to PxScan.

Thanks MediumRare. As I have time, I'm going back and moving over the older stuff. If there are specific ones you'd like to see moved over sooner, let me know and I'll move them to the top of my list.

What open source software are you using for the site?

I am guessing Joomla. Am I right?

Yup, Joomla. I looked at the various CMS's and this one fit our needs the best.

PHP was upgraded on the server. I've already run into some issues with the search function but everything else seems to be working okay so far. If you see something that isn't working correctly, let me know.
