LG N4B1 Blu-ray NAS Unboxing

Postby Ian on Thu Feb 26, 2009 2:50 pm

LG sent me their new N4B1 Blu-ray NAS. I usually don't do the whole "unboxing" thing but I thought some of you might enjoy this. The unit came in the box below. It was surprisingly heavy for its size.

Here's what it looks like in the box. The small white box on top contains the software CD's, cables, manuals, etc.

And here it is out of the box. First with its foam padding (yes, I'm really dragging this out  ).

LG really hasn't cut any corners here. The unit is very well constructed. While the outsides are covered in silver and glossy white plastic, the insides are metal. And, judging by its weight, there's A LOT of it in there.

Behind the door, you'll find slots for four SATA hard drives. While it supports up to four 1TB hard drives, our test unit came preloaded with four 250GB Hitachi drives. The sleds the drives sit in are easy to insert and remove and lock in very well. They're 100x better than the ones in Dell's servers. :D

That's it for now. I'll be adding more pictures and screenshots as I get further into my review. If you have any questions, let me know.

One more thing..

The Blu-ray drive in here is a BH08NS20. Yes, that's LG's new 8x BD writer.

Interesting... Looks like it has the standard RJ45 connector, but is that eSATA and USB as well? If so, is that for additional storage or more connectivity options?

Along with the RJ45, its got two USB and an eSATA connection on the back. On the front, you have a card reader and another USB port.

I know that it can backup external hard drives using those ports but I haven't plugged one in yet to see if it can share it.
