Is that the Optiarc or Mediatek design? Can't figure LITE-ON out on this one... why release the same naming convention on two different drive designs? iHAS424-08/09 A Mediatek / iHAS424-32/98 Y Optiarc/NEC (Guessing the Y is NEC chipset indicator).

It's the Mediatek. I'm not really sure why Lite-On did that, especially since they have nearly the same ID string, etc. The real kicker is that the Optiarc version lacks support for SmartErase, which is the big feature on the iHAS4xx series.

The Optiarc rebadges are due to a shortage of MediaTek chipsets.

I'm not sure if I'm buying the whole shortage thing. Since I posted that, both Lite-On and MSI started selling the DH-24AAS, which is based on the same hardware as the iHAS124.

Interesting... looks like Lite-On is making OEM firmware for the DH-24AYS (AD-7240S) for other companies. Don't you think that Optiarc would be doing this?
