Thank-you very much Ian,
I don't suppose you could be a little more specific in what you mean by "in most cases"?
Wouldn't it be in all or no cases?

The reason I ask is that you may have some basis for comparison...
Having compared many equivalent drives over the years that differ only by this mechanism.

I will proceed with a SH-B123L buy (have to get OS, none in Oz)...
But may continue further analysis in this thread by buying a few more combos/BR writers not already reviewed.

Cheers

There really is no difference these days. When a company comes up with a new drive design, they nearly always make versions with and without LightScribe. The firmware is nearly the same and the only difference is the sensor.

The sensor being the apparatus that determines for the laser, that it can change it burning routine, to suit a side that needs a LS image burned?
Sorry for the "million & one" questions, I've been "off-the-radar" for approx. 4yrs when it come to ODD's! ;)

The sensor just checks to see if there's a LS disc in the drive.

Unfortunately the SH-B123L won't be available to my region

Only the SH-B123A will be (no lightscribe)....
There is an SH-B083L, but I believe it's a predecessor to the SH-B123x series?

Shame, I would've liked to have provided bench data for your site.

So it looks like I've no choice but to get the UH10LS20 or iHES208!
Based on your glowing review, I think I'll get the former.....

Thanks for all your pointers/advice, tis most sincerely appreciated.
All the best.

I'll have a SH-B123A soon if anyone wants me to provide bench data for the site's records?
Just tell me what apps I need to run.... Cheers
