Looking for a used CDR-RW

I am in need of a working CDR-RW for our amateur radio emergency communications group. Per the FCC, we must keep a record of each message we send/receive. What speed and price range are you looking for?

We have been using a Hp 7200 internal unit till a week ago, it died on us in the middle of backing up the days messages. So, anything just about would be an improvement.
As to price, I have no idea, since there are units out there for about $55.00 and up, I'd say it would have to be under $45.00 or so.

For under $50, I would just suggest getting a new CD-RW drive. Therefore you can have the full warranty plus all the software, manuals, and cables that come with it. You can find CD-RW drives with speeds between 16X and 40X for under $50. Best place to check are the retail store ads (Best Buy, Circuit City, Compusa, Fry's Electronics) and also online stores such as www.mwave.com and www.newgg.com. This week's Best Buy Ad (9/8-9/14) has an incredible price for a TDK 40x12x48 CD-RW drive. I would suggest checking out your local best buy to see if they have any of the drives in stock. This deal can only be found at the retail stores and not online.

Well, the TDK wasn't $99.99 with an instant rebate. They are $149.99 with a $50.00 and $30.00 mail in rebates.
Oh well, I'll keep on looking for now, but tnx for the help.

Are you sure? The ad I saw says it is $99.99 - $50 Instant Rebate - $10 Mail-In Rebate = $39.99.

Well, I went and bought the Candyne 48x12x48 at orifice max for $79.99+ tax, and I got a $30.00 mir also. If I'm right, this drive is a lite on. I'm guessing, as there isn't a review for this drive yet, but I read the comparable Lite on review. It looks like it will do the job.

Well, I went and bought the Cendyne 48x12x48 at orifice max for $79.99+ tax, and I got a $30.00 mir also. If I'm right, this drive is a lite on. I'm guessing, as there isn't a review for this drive yet, but I read the comparable Lite on review. It looks like it will do the job.

If it's the Cendyne Lightning IV and the model number is LTR-48125W, then I'm pretty sure that there has been a review. Look for it under LiteOn.

Well will wonders never cease???...I just opened the box, which is labeled a Cendyne Lightning IV and says it is a 48x12x48. However the faceplate says it is a 48x16x48 Go figure.
It says on the sticker on the drive that it is Model No.CW4802.
The serial number sticker says it was mfgr'd in July '02 at plant 2.
On the faceplate , going from right to left, there are 2 rectangular buttons, and to the left of that is 1 led and directly above it is the emergenct eject hole. to the left corner is a black volume and headphone connection.
On the tray door, the high speed CD-RW emblem is there and on the upper right of the tray is the 48x16x48 lettering.
I guess I am fortunate for the little "surprise".

That drive you received was manufactured by AccessTek. They support the newer 16x CD-RW media.

Now to find out about them (AccessTek) Anyone?

What is the drive's firmware version number? It's sometimes easier to tell from that.

I did some checking, and there seems to be a fairly high failure rate fir thr Cendyne Lightning IV 48x12x48, that is actually a 48x16x48 from AccessTek. The Office Max here has been advised to pull them from their displays and return them to their warehouse.
They were aware of the 12 vs 16 speed difference also.

And to flog that dead horse again: the ad in BestBuys flyer says that there are 2 MIRS, one for $50, and the other one....no instant ones.
Anyway I took it back, and will probably see whats on sale this weekend.

I don't know where you got the failure rate data for the CenDyne Lightning IV?
What I can says is that someone here posted a poll a few weeks ago, and only 1 (the original poster by the way) had problems with his CenDyne IV drive.

My brother and I both own LiteOn burners (among other brands)
and have had no problems so far

Thanks to all that responded to my post. I have found a Sony CRX 140E at a yard sale for $5.00, and it actually works. Now to find the latest firmware for it and burn some CD's
