Now own:

Xbox - In a word WOW!
Amazing video (Dead or Alive 3 e.g.) and incredible Dolby Digital 5.1 audio with the two optional Monster Xbox cable kits I just bought at a Wiz store closing sale for 40% off their very high prices, which did at least come out cheaper than BestBuy's regular prices.
(Cables were $64 + tax, as opposed to $85 + tax).

PSX

Atari 400 (20 years old and still works!!) (PC/console combo)

Formerly owned:

Colecovision

Gameboy (threw it out when screen went bad and it got worse
when I tried to fix it)
Burners only:
Pioneer DVR-115D
Pioneer DVR-111D
Plextor PX-716A TLA0304
Plextor PX-716A same TLA

LiteOn 52246S 52X CD-RW
LiteOn 52246S (another)
LiteOn 52327S 52X CD-RW
TDK 40X USB 2.0 CD-RW
TEAC CD-W540E 40X CD-RW

Hey VEFF, I still have the Atari 400 too. Fired it up a couple years back to see if it still worked and it did. I have the 5 1\4 floppy drive as well, I believe I paid close to $400 for it new! Also have about 50 floppies filled with games that still worked. Those were good times.

Atari 2600 (my first and still my favorite console) I have 3 of them and about 200 carts that I picked up at thrift stores and garage sales. Its still fun to hook it up to my 32 inch TV and play asteroids and missle command with those blocky graphics and cheezy sound effects.

NES - I have about 70 games, still a lot of fun and great for parties.

and Super NES about 40 games, and looking for more. Its a shame this console is so overlooked now, it blew my mind in the early 90's.

Why should I buy a Playstation 1-2 or X-Box when I can play cool games on my PC?

I was seriously going to buy one, until I read more about 'em. Then, for me at least, I came up with much more reasons not to buy one than to buy one. (Are PC-USB to X-box-USB adapters yet available? I wouldn't know...)

That was the funnest thing to program, and leaves me with some great childhood memories... Learned so much about the 6502 processor and other chipsets in the 2600/400/800/600XL/800XL/130XE (and others) family that I even knew the actual bugs in the chipsets and how to exploit 'em...

FWIW, Activision's Pitfall 2 REALLY pushed the 2600/6502 capabilities to its limits... (Frankly, that game always seemed to have too much to fit into the 2600's memory...)

Always found it odd that in daisy-chainin' the serial devices to the computer, that the modem was the last in line...

To me, for some reason, that console had the coolest game ever. Too bad I can't remember what or why. Castle or Knight or Dungeon or something... Any idea?

Adam sure flopped though. :(

I dont own any unless you count the Gamegear that I never use. I like PCs, I dont see any appeal in the console games when I can play better games on PC.

Why is this in the Rants&Raves Forum?

I own an XBOX - gave away a SNES and Gameboy.

Checked out the Infinium website - these guys must be on crack.

there's no concrete branding / differentiation from the other game platforms out there. plus it seems to rely heavily on broad band, which is still not as prevalant as it should be.

add to that even Microsoft is having a hard time getting good market share with its XBOX, this makes the Infinium game platform almost doomed to failure.

PS - seems like this might be a hoax:

No actual game consoles. The closest thing I have is my Athlon-based PC:

1.2-GHz Thunderbird with 200MHz bus
ABIT KT7A 1.3 BIOS version B4
512-MB CL3 PC133 SDRAM
ATI 32MB Xpert 2000 Pro
SoundBlaster Live Value
Linksys/Network Anywhere 10/100 Ethernet
V.92 dial-up modem
Hi-Val 52x CD-ROM
Lite-On LTR-32123S CD-RW
Maxtor 60-GB ATA133 7200RPM HDD with 2MB cache.

I remember when I built that system originally (same except for V.90 modem, slower CD-RW, and slower, smaller HDD), it seemed so fast. Now, it seems like it needs an upgrade, especially that video card.

Edit: I have a floppy drive, too.
