Xeon 2.4Ghz or Athlon xp 2600

Postby X-Nemesis on Sun Nov 10, 2002 2:15 pm

Which would be better in general for a gaming system?

The Xeon is about $140 bucks cheaper...and I know that they are geared more towards servers but I figured I'd ask out of curiosity.

And what's a good mobo to put with the Xeon...I think that there are only two manufacturers who produce for the Xeon processor.

Thanks

For gaming, Athlon works better.

For Gaming, always go with AMD's Athlon. They are better suited for gaming, while Intel Pentium's are geared toward applications and productivity.

XP chip

I know the XP chips can be used in any recent AMD motherboard, but don't the Xeons require special motherboards? I believe they hav extra pins that require a special socket. I may be mistaken, but it's something to look into.

Why a Xeon? Why not a normal P4?

cache size?

Don't Xeons have larger L2 caches than regular P4s?

Unless the games you're playing are doing real time server transactions, stick to the Athlon.
