Question about 52 vs 48

Postby TheOverClocker on Sun Nov 24, 2002 10:40 pm

Are 52 speed cd-rw's any more reliable than the 48x cd-rw. I am looking to get a burner but didnt want to spend the money on a 52X burner if the data integrity of the 52X was worse than the 48*

Some people may tell you 52x writers can be dangerous, but i think they are fine if the right media is used with no damage. According to Ian's latest review of the CenDyne, it gave better quality in the burns. So yes, they should be more reliable. And then as your name suggests overclocker, you should be able to easily overclock the 52x to the 52x32x52x whenever that comes out.... 8) I think 52x drives are worth the money unless you already own a 48x.

The reasons that I bought a LiteON 52/24/52 was b/c the price of a quality 48/24/48 was just too expensive or not widely available where I'm from. There was an abundance of 48/12/48 drives but I didn't feel like flashing that firmware to get a speed boost either.

I would've loved to purchase a LiteON manufactured TDK 48/24/48. It just wasn't worth the $80 CDN + %15 tax premium over my slightly faster LiteON.

Now after a few weeks have passed, that I now see the LiteON 48/24/48 trickle into the Canadian market. DOH!

Truthfully, I couldn't really care one way or another about the 52 vs. 48 speed. It was the 24x RW and a minimum of 48x CDR speed that I was looking for from a good manufacturer.

By good manufacturer I mean in terms of quality and product support.
