Lite-On LTR-52246S --> ASUS 5224A: Possible?

Postby sonyman on Tue Nov 26, 2002 9:07 pm

Can the Lite-On LTR-52246S be converted into an ASUS 5224A? If so, would anyone be kind enough to email me the firmware? My email is sonyps3man@bellsouth.net.

Thanks,
Scott

Any reason why you want to convert it into an Asus?

Maybe because it is faster when writing at 48X(P-CAV instead of CAV), 40X and 32X and it also uses P-CAV for 24X RW.
And to see if it can be done ;)
Just a thought.

Yes, yes and yes. Additionally, it reads CDs faster.

Looks like Asus is ahead in the 52x market as far as the features are concerned. Do you guys think LiteOn would be concerned and come with a new firmware sooner or later, to address the 48x P-CAV and 24x P-CAV RW?
Ian's review of the CenDyne says it writes 48x at P-CAV but Alejandra proved the other day http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7606 that it was 48x CAV.

The review has been updated to reflect what Alejandra showed me.

Thanks a lot Ian, that really clears it up, 52x, 48x (CAV) 40x, 32x, 24x (P-CAV) 16x, 12x, 8x, 4x (CLV).
Now lets hope LiteOn's next firmware for this drive will change the current RW specs to 24x (P-CAV) 16x, 12x, 10x, 8x, 4x, 2x (CLV) :wink:

I would guess they would just integrate all that with their more media compatibility firmwares. I don't know exactly when but probably sometime around Christmas, or maybe after? Ian had wrote to LiteOn explaining the poor performance in RW.
All the other 52x drives (cyberdrive 52x same too) are using P-CAV for 48x CD-R and 24x RW. I don't think the 48x P-CAV can make that much difference in the write time, but the RW is too slow.

The Asus CRW-5224A used P-CAV to write CDR at 48x? But its website showed that the drive used CAV.
