Postby M17 on Fri Nov 29, 2002 10:38 am

Hi
I got one iomagic 48x cdrw from cc this morning. it looks funny, under the iomagic sticker it says optorite.com. I never heard of it, does anyone know anything about the company or the drive? I was hoping that is was a lite on no luck.

As I understand it Optorite = Accesstek = Cyberdrive. So your drive is probably the same as a Cyberdrive, even though it may look different from the front.

good news it does not work, i'm taking it back.
I plug it into my ext firewire case, and my comp does bot see it. the drive is just spinning like its tring to read something, no disc inside.

I am positive that Optorite = Accesstek... don't know the part about whether = or <> to Cyberdrive.
My experience with the Optorite 48x16x48 is that it is actually not too bad. Writing quality is good (probably not the best). HOWEVER, the drive doesn't report errors correctly, so if you use itself to do a CDSpeed testing, you will get all errors!!!!
Use another drive to do quality testing..... actually if you use scan disc on CDSpeed, it tells you that the drive doesn't report errors correctly or something to that order.
It rips mode 2 CDs like nothing.... Z-CLV but a bit noisy....

I think it is a good drive... but with Liteons running off the shelf at $10 on black Friday.... you be the judge....
