cdrom/cdwriter problem..

Postby Mov on Mon Dec 02, 2002 11:03 pm

i just got me an LG GCE-8400B, i set it as a 'slave' on the back of the unit, then connected it to the same ide cable as my 50x cdrom (master).

now here's the problem: the cdrom used to be operating under udma 33, but after i put the burner in (which is apparently in 'Multi-Word DMA Mode 2') the cdrom seems to have slipped into PIO mode 4.

i'm running xp pro sp1.. anyone got any ideas why this would be happening? PIO mode 4 is less than ideal for 'on-the-fly copies', copying large files from the cdrom drive, etc. (results in 100% cpu usage)

thanks in advance for any help..

well dodecahedron, thankyou very much for the nudge in the right direction.. i seem to have found success in the reinstallation of my secondary ide channel.

something odd though.. although under device manager it says 'Ultra DMA Mode 2' for the cdroms transfer mode, the SiS IDE Util still insists it's in PIO mode 4. but i'm fairly sure windows is correct in this instance, so all is good for now.

thanks again..
