The new plextools, already tested? [UPDATE: THERE OUT]

Postby hjs on Thu Jan 01, 1970 4:24 am

Hi, i just read a comment of Satcp who has tested the new plextools.
And he claims it has a whole new way of extracting audio wich is even better then EAC.

does anybody know more about this?

( Satcp is a belgium guy: http://www.ping.be/satcp/ he got some very good tutorials. )

what do you mean the NEW plextools ?
plextor's site (http://www.plextor.be/English/technical/downld_util.html) has 1.14, this is not new!

Where did you read this?
SatCP surely knows what he's talking about when it comes to DAE :)
He has connections with Plextor so they probably sent him a pre-release version.

The way EAC extracts audio is actually very bad (at least in secure mode without C2 pointers) but the end result is good.

Product: PlexTools
Author: Plextor SA/NV
Homepage: http://www.plextor.be/
Platform: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000
Price: Freeware
Description: Plextor PlexTools is a set of utilities for Plextor drives. PlexTools can grab digital audio, copy CDs, adjust Plextor drive speed settings, view drive information (serial, jumper settings, ID, ...), CD-RW eraser, multimedia player, easy to use audio CD maker and disc layout info (which even shows the type and manufacturer of the CD-R disc). And all this easily accessable through a Plextor icon on the system tray. Most users probably won't use the features of PlexTools since other software like EAC or Nero already do most of it, but the ability to control the drive speed settings and spin down time alone makes it worth the install! New in PlexTools 1.07 is automatical offset correction for Plextor drives what makes PlexTools able to make 100% perfect clones of audio CDs, just like EAC can!.

Download:
- PlexTools 1.03: http://www.ping.be/satcp/files/plextool103.exe
- Upgrade to latest version: http://www.plextor.be/english/technical/download.html

bold emphasis - mine (- dodecahedron)

latest PlexTools is 1.14. and this has been out for some time already.

I red this on a dutch website on agustus the 11th.

here are his exact words, it's dutch but you know a good translator ;)

care to translate into English, for the benefit of us non-Dutch speakers?

Sure, here it goes:

I had the pleasure to test the upcoming Plextor PlexTools. It uses a totally renewed audio extraction method. And the results are promising. EAC will soon know his superior...

thansk.
well, lets hope this is indeed a new PlexTools in the works. we rejoice.

anyway, if it really is a newer PlexTools and "he has connections with Plextor", maybe he should update his website (see my previous post).

We'll it's out
http://www.cdfreaks.com/news2.php3?ID=4660

Since today a new version of Plextor's PlexTools can be found on the European Plextor website. This new PlexTools version offers some new settings for their upcoming drives, the Plextor PX-W4824A and PX-W4824TU (USB 2.0) drives.

Besides that Plextor has also implemented some very interesting new features such as 'freedb' support and 'Advanced DAE Error Recovery'. CD Freaks has already been testing this new PlexTools version for a couple of days and we've wrapped up a small review explaining what this new version can do and, even more importantly, how well it performs:

Yep, we can. The hardware isn't different at all.

As I see it, we're getting the shaft with Easy CD Creator and Plextor Manager.

Better than Plextor Manager? It's GARBAGE!! Only 2 out of the 3 utilities work (DiscDupe 2000) starts up and will not recognize the Plextor 48x24x48 drive! And you can't change ANY settings on the drive except Spindown timeout. PLEASE. Agreed, us Americans are definitely getting the shaft and I'll be obtaining myself a copy of Plextools as we speak. (Speaking of which, that's what I was doing when I came here .. I did a search for them). I will have my PLEXTOOLS soon! :)

I do remember reading how MaximumPC magazine used Nero on their Plexwriter and it turned out to have better burning performance than the included EZ CD.
