DSOF for the 166S and CHOZ for the 165H. All match more media.

F###. One dead 166S. Anyone know if recovery is possible or should I send it back to Dell?

The firmware is for the Liteon, not for the Dell, but maybe you can save your drive with MTKflash. Look here and read carefully: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php ... adid=42502

The drive is a Liteon 166S, purchased from Dell Software and Peripherals.

MTKflash looks good, but I have no floppy drive and all my drives are NTFS. Unless someone has a way to make the tool work under win2k/XP I'm out of luck. Thanks anyway.

Hmm looks like either Mktflash or a reboot fixed my drive, back on DS08, and not going to change :)

Hey Pradeep, if you have a burner you could make a cd with a dos boot image + mtkflash and binary fw's, then boot 'n flash from the cd.

This has been discussed in the firmware forum in this topic:
http://forum.firmware-flash.com/viewtopic.php?t=8559
where they also give links to such images.
