Go to the store and pick up Fuji branded CD-R's and you know you have Taiyo Yuden. Also some Memorex CD-R's are made by TY, just look for the Made in Japan on the label of the spindle.

Taiyo Yuden doesn't make CD-RW disc unfortunately.
Taiyo Yuden also doesn't make 99min CD-R's.

He specifically asked for gold TY discs, Buddha. :) I haven't seen any gold TY discs, but why do you need them, tyrone? The regular TY discs work extraordinarily well.

Me neither - about the only other TY CD I have seen is their "Music" CD-R for stand-alone recorders. Too bad TY doesnt make CD-RW's.

Those gold CD-R's you saw at the Taiyo Yuden's web-site are gold on the top only. The recording surface is not gold but rather Taiyo Yuden's ordinary Cyanine dye.

Here are 3 web-sites that can show you that the gold Taiyo Yuden disc are only gold on the surface with Cyanine dye on the recording surface.

No difference. All Taiyo Yuden CD's use Cyanine dye for the recording surface. The only difference is the top of the CD, where the label goes. The top of the Taiyo Yuden CD's can be either gold, silver, white, or another color.

Taiyo Yuden Only Makes 74min and 80min CD-R's. Those double-sided silver looking CD-R's are only single sided. They just have silver lacquer on the top and Cyanine dye for the recording surface. Just like your regular CD-R without a thermal label on the top. If you do buy CD-R's from this site, I'm assuming they will come in a plastic spindle/cake box without any paper covers or sleeves. However, I would look through the hot deals sections because you could do so much better than this web-site for Taiyo Yuden CD-R's.

All Taiyo Yuden cdrs the same?

Postby glfgo03 on Thu Dec 05, 2002 8:34 pm

Are all the TY cdrs of the same quality? I can get a 50 spindle of the FUJI/TY for 30($CDN) or a 100 spindle of the unbranded TY silver for 38($CDN).

Yes they are the same. Only difference is the top surface of the CD-R. The Fuji ones will branded with Fuji on them, while the unbranded ones will either be silver or gold lacquered, or be white on top ready for inkjet printing. I would suggest buying whichever you can find for cheaper.

I actually found a even cheaper price ($29.99)oemexpress.com. I never ordered from them before so I don't know what the service is like.

Try new Verbatim 80'/700MB -40x pastel color discs .They also made by TY and burn in 48x without error

For Disc T@2'ing I would recommend Verbatim's DataLife Plus series of CD's as they have a nice blue dye on the recording surface. TY doesn't have any dark blue dye because they only use Cyanine on their CD's. For that dark blue look, you need the Super Azo dye used by the Verbatim DataLife Plus series made by Mitsubushi Chemicals.

Or better yet, the older Metal AZO dye Verbatim DataLife Plus discs. They are the darkest blue. Of course, they only record up to 16x.

You could also buy the Yamaha brand discs that are "optimized" for DiscT@2:

http://www.yamahashoponline.com/product.asp?sku=2225712
http://www.yamahashoponline.com/product.asp?sku=2243941
http://www.yamahashoponline.com/product.asp?sku=2225709

I think these actually are Verbatim/Mitsubishi Chemicals Metal AZO discs, although I haven't seen any in person so I can't verify that. Nor do I know at what speed they burn although I suspect they also burn at only 16x.
