Lite-On 166S Region problem with new firmware

Postby dtakias on Thu Dec 05, 2002 1:37 pm

Today i tried to upgrade the firmware of my 166S to the latest firmware D166SDS0F. I had a hard time doing that as the firmware program would not do it.After installing the Intel Application Accellerator and restart the system the firmware upgrade was done right away 8) Maybe it was the Ultra DMA 0 bug
But now the program i was using to make it region free doesnt work
Anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks in advance

Hi.

Are you using RPC Switch 0.005? Have clicked on the Disable button?
With this new firmware you'll have to set it Disable sometimes until it really gets RPC I. Just keeping trying...

I managed to make it region free 8)
The problem was M$'s WinXP itself. As i couldnt do anything in XP decided to boot 98SE.I started the RPC switch program and clicked on disable and straight away the dvdinfo program showed me that there is no region protection 8)
I flashed again the the drive with latest firmware with mtkflash went to 98 and disable right away the region protection.I went after to XP and the rpc switch told me again that there is no region protection.
The 98SE OS was clean install, no dma, nothing enabled, only PIO mode.
Maybe XP was beeing stupid for another one time.
At least happy end :D

Yes, you should not use RPCDE under Windows XP. I used it under Windows ME.
