Troubling, hopefully misleading, DRU-500A news on meritline

Check the writing in red at the bottom.

Hopefully the "new" drives they mention are simply those that will have the 1.0f firmware built-in and the new box indicating 4X DVD+R write speed. (Someone who has a relative working for Sony
had mentioned that they would issue a new revision of the drive, which would be the same as the old one, but would have the new firmware
built-in, rather than requiring the user (most not as savvy with PC gear as members of forums such as cdrlabs etc.) to upgrade the firmware themselves.

If the assumption above is incorrect, then why would only "some" drives have been recalled...

Well, I don't know how much of that I believe. For one, the drive IS compatible with Sony's DVD-R media. I know that a lot of stores are having a hard time keeping those drives in stock.. Meritline could be one that hasn't gotten a shipment in awhile so this is there excuse why they haven't shipped their drives to customers.
