Is this CD-RW drive 100% sure a Liteon CD-RW drive?

Burn baby burn!

Is this CD-RW drive 100% sure a Liteon CD-RW drive?

Postby imtim83 on Fri Dec 06, 2002 3:02 pm

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=295607

Also is there any differences with this different brand name cd-rw drive if its a liteon cd-rw drive than buying a actual liteon cd-rw drive at lets say newegg.com ? Does this drive have 24x speed on cd-rw cds or only 12x compared to the liteon 52x 24x 52x cd-rw drive? The one i saw at bestbuy.com has 52x 24x 52x it says but this one at compusa says 52x 12x 52x. I mean does either two have anything different at all except for the different box ? Like lets say can you use the firmware updates from liteon.com with this cd-rw drive or no? :( Etc ? Can you get liteon tech support with this drive if you need it but i don't think it will be needed sense i hardly ever use tech support? Does either one have a higher access time or would both have the same access time? Do both have the same media compat? Do both have the same burning speed as in being able to finish within 2 mins something with 52x cd-r media? etc?

That page is sort of confusing. It says the drive has 52X Zone-CLV Writing. The Lite-On uses CAV. But then again, it mentions VAS as a feature.. a Lite-On technology.

Right, I'm not sure. But then again, I haven't heard of Buslink using anything else (yet) for their 52x writers.

My friend bought one the other day and it is a Lite-On. It even has the Lite-On sticker on the back of the drive.

ok thanks everyone. I may go take a look because thats not that bad of a deal. Think i will find one any cheaper easier? I am sure if they are $9.99 they are harder to find or $19.99 sense everyone gets one at that time.

The BUSlink drive is really rated at 52x24x52. The Compusa web-site is a misprint and the picture is probably a pre-production photo of the box before the selection of the CD-RW drive was finalized. As for the other questions, I answered them in your other post. If you still have questions, feel free to message me or post it in the forum.

I just got this drive (Buslink 52X24X52) from BB 2 weeks ago for $79.99 it is Lite-On and the Lite-On tage also is on top of the unit with model no. LTR-52246S. The dive works perfect and flawless. If I were you I wouldn't think twice by rushing to buy the drive for $49.99.

BTW: I just upgraded the firmware of the drive to V6S07 from Lite-on without any anticipated problem.

BuddhaTB ok thanks. Appreicate it a lot. So when i go to compusa i should see a Buslink 52x 24x 52x cd-rw and not 52x 12x 52x. I was thinking maybe it was a misprint and it seems like that is right. Not a bad deal at all. I know they sometimes have deals like $9.99 to $29.99 i think for cd-rw drives but i don't think i will beable to find one any cheaper really. Maybe but by then it may be hard to get.

$49.99 is probably the cheapest you'll find for a 52x CD-RW drive. I highly doubt it'll get any cheaper than that. However, the older CD-RW drives will continue to drop in price like the 40x or 48x models.
And yes, when you go to Compusa, the BUSlink box will read 52x24x52.

Enjoy your Lite-On Drive!

I would hold off, unless you really need to burn CD's fast. Your Plextor drive is already pretty good, even though its not as fast as CD-RW drives out in the market today. I would only buy a new CD-RW drive if the price was really good and too good of a deal to pass on.

well that plextor also doesn't burn everything, copy protected games included, plus its a plextor, a lite-on is better

Hey, I was able to make a back-up of my Warcraft III CD using my TDK 12x10x32 CD-RW drive that's a re-badged Plextor Drive. Plextor does make some good drives.
