This looks pretty good value for money as a data backup device - bit concerned over the review that speaks of almost all disks had errors - not so good! Does anyone out there have any experience of this beast - are the errors managed in any way?

ASUS finally released a new firmware for the drive (version 1.11). I have not tried it to see if it fixed the writing quality at all. Has anyone else?

It's gone a bit quiet - obviously not a RW used by lots of you! Ian, you said there was a new firmware - will this be included in new units or do you have to install it - if so, do you need special equipment to do this?

It's easy to install. You download two files, run the exe in Windows, pick the file and reboot when its done.

Here is a link to the updates:

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/cdrw/4816A/

It looks like ASUS has the 1.12 firmware there too.
