I checked the LiteOn website and for the 52x it says that the only difference is that it supports more media. If it had added P-CAV, i am sure they would have mentioned it in the description. It's a pretty quick firmware update, but LiteOn is famous for these.
The 52x firmware R526S07 can be found here - http://www.liteonit.com/webfw/LTR-52246S/R526S07.zip
And the 48x firmware R48SS09 can be found here - http://www.liteonit.com/webfw/LTR-48246S/R48SS09.zip
And the site for all other LiteOn firmwares, and their descriptions is - http://www.liteonit.com/english-load-firmware.htm#cd-rw
I hope LiteOn would add P-CAV RW, as I am sure they have seen the reviews their drives have got and the only area where it doesn't perform upto standards is in the rewriting.

I just flashed to 6S07 and it seems that the firmware produces similar quality burns, except that CMC media possibly got a bit worse.

I saw the results of the CMC on your site using the newer firmware. Quality media such as TYs always gives good results, but LiteOn was supposed to make more media compatible with this firmware weren't they? The CMC continues to have problems, I wonder which media they made compatible then....

I tested Imation CMC 40x media, now it has slow downs at end but Scandisc shows no damaged sectors, but in CD Quality test still shows some errors.

:)

So according to you, CMC media is giving not perfect but still better results with the new firmware?

Can the flash upgrade for the 52x be used on the 48x24x48 Liteon burners?

I have upgraded my Lite-On to new firmware to V6S07 and have no trouble burning CMC32X or 48X to 52X speed.

I flashed mine as well, 99 minute discs still work fine too.
No media problems so far.

6s07 seems ok to me.
