LiteOn LTD-166S crashes computer

Postby boneyard on Fri Dec 06, 2002 7:41 pm

hello,

i have seen several topics about this type but all are about turning on dma or comparing different types i believe. if im mistaken about that sorry for the double post.

the dvd player crashes my windows 98 box when i put a cd in it. it read the cd and then goes to a blue screen. is this a known problem and does anyone know what i can do to fix this?

thanks,
bart

sounds like a driver or program type conflict. I've had that happen before when 2 different programs don't play well together. You might want to look at anything you've just installed lately.

Why are you using Windows 98? If you can run all your programs fine in 2000 or XP I would ditch 98.

I had problems like this last year because of burning software .
What burning software do you use ?

the computer only has dvd-rom so no burning software, also it almost a clean install of win98 and office 97. no extra drivers or anything else special.

lite-on has no special drivers for this drive i believe. it just says use the default windows drivers. the firmware update might help but i rather first try other options.

it seems to crash when a cd has autorun. cds without autorun it plays fine. of course i could turn off autorun but that seems a big harsh a fix.

Is it just one particular CD that crashes the computer when inserted with autorun, or is it all of them? Does the same CD crash the computer when inserted into your CD-ROM drive (if you have one) with autorun enabled?

Perhaps it's an aspi layer problem .
you should use "nero info tool" to know if your aspi layer is not corrupted or if an aspi is missing .
After a bad reset , mine has been corrupted and my drive had problems recognising medias ( but it was not crashing the pc ) , so i had to reinstall it .
You can download nero info tool here : http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html

if you need an aspi download the latest package here :
