Problem with oxford 911 firewire enclosure

Postby M17 on Sun Dec 01, 2002 10:12 pm

Hi
I'm try to put my polaroid 48x cdrw drive into my firewire (fw) case. When I connect both power and ide cables the drive does not seem to get any power. If I connect only power cable, I'm able to open cdrw tray.
I tried on my desktop to a regular ide connection and windows recognized it.
I upgraded my fw bridge's firmware no change.
Has any one heard of anything like this?
Oh, the fw case works perfect with my yamaha 3200 cdrw.
Thank you

You've jumpered the cdrom drive to be the IDE master or
configured the firewire bridge to expect the cdrom drive
to be the slave? You've verified that the firewire bridge
settings are ok (UDMA mode 3/4/5 only if you have
an 80 conductor IDE cable, device type set to unknown or
cdrom not disk, 6sec. wait is configured if necessary, etc.)?

Care to share what you did?

I also have a Compucable FireXpress box that doesn't seem to work with some CDRW drive. I tried the Asus 48x16x48, TDK 48x24x48 and the LiteOn 52x24x52. Exact same problem like you described. The manual that came with the enclosure does not have any info about changing mode, configuration or anything. It is very generic. Can you elaborate what configuration you changed to make it work.

Thanks

Use this link to download firware flasher.
http://www.triumphtech.com/Driver/Oxford160GB.zip

YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE TO upgrade your firmware.

When I installed the flasher it did not give me any icon on the desktop or start menu. But I found "oxford semiconductor" folder in "program files" folder. The program to run is "fwupload.exe".
This will come with a pdf file, it gives basic instructions.
Basicely when you run that app it will give you 2 choices either to:
1. Update firmware
2. Modify settings
I choose to modify settings, then I choose "advanced options", then I checked "detect non-std devices", click 'ok' to exit the 'advanced tab/window' the click upload, to modify the setting on the bridge.
It will say ready on the status bar (bottom) on the initial main window.
It is REQUIRED TO disconnect and power down the fw device AFTER the upload. About 5-10sec.
This worked for me.
You will notice that in the advanced tab there are other options, you might have to enable them as well. However be very carefull, make sure you power down the device after each flash. I did not do that and it cost me one bridge.
Good luck.
