It is a LiteOn under the skin and uses the MediaTek series 6 chipset, so yes it can be done.

Go get the binaries and mtkflash here:

Well, I don't own a TDK so I can't report from personal experience that it works, but it ought to work in theory, and KenL over in CDFreaks reports he has done it.

Do you have the TDK? If so, try it and see. If not, just buy the original LiteOn in the first place. Or, if you prefer the look of the TDK, buy the 52x version of the TDK.

I do have to ask you something, though. Why did you ask:

If you already had your answer:

Did you find out new info between your posts? If so, please share it with everyone else.

Another way to go about overclocking the TDK 48x would be to wait until TDK release the firmware for their 52x drive. Then you could try flashing it with the 52x firmware to see if its successful.

I have the TDK 48x and to me, overclocking the drive to save a few seconds on burning a CD isn't really worth the trouble and problems that may arise from flashing ur drive with the 52x firmware.

I read on the internet that Elvis and Tupac are still alive and work at Toys R Us in Phoenix. Of course, that doesn't mean its true.

Yes, it can be done, and I wouldn't be too concerned about damaging your recorder. See here: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... highlight=

You must use the mtkflash utility to convert it, however.

There we go. That's the link I wanted. Thanks vinnie97. I thought I had recalled someone reporting success here also, but I couldn't find it with the search so I quoted the CDFreaks user.

np. I couldn't remember the thread title, so I had to do a search query w/ my username.

btw, update on that info: I shaved off a few more seconds of burning time with Fujifilm TY discs (as low as 2:26) on the CD Speed burning test (and got a slightly faster min/average/max burning speed). Also, the burnt disc was shown to be error-free. :D
