People never understand that its important to know every little detail on a peice of hardware. When you buy a piece of hardware its good to know every little thing about it no matter what it is because one thing could make you not want to buy it. Its always important to know the disadvantages before you even bought it. Most people will just buy it before making sure.

I agree.

If it's my $ and the part is for me, I'll do a lot of research before I hand over my Visa card to a vendor.

Spazmogen and thats why its important to ask questions before you buy something. If you stay quiet you won't know. Asking questions is important to do. I know there are reviews but thats for the questions that you don't need to ask sense they answer them but nothing answers every question. Some people go into light detail. Some go into heavy detail. Its best to go in heavy detail with your questions because then you will know all the disadvantages and what to look for exactly. You should not miss one techinal detail. Some people are really techinal some are not. Some people eat, sleep, dream computers. Some people don't.

Where do you draw the line between asking just the right amount of questions and asking too many questions that are repetitive/similar?

As long as he doesn't ask "is this BusLink is a Lite On?", he can ask all the questions he wants.

Nudge, Nudge   .

That's for our resident "Curmudgeon".

Hey imtim83, I hope we didn't come down too hard on you. I'm not saying you shouldn't ask questions. In fact, asking questions is the point of these forums. But, repeatedly asking the same question wastes the time of those trying to answer your questions and potentially takes away resources from someone else who has a different question he or she would like to have answered.

Please continue to ask questions here. Your presence is welcome (don't be intimidated by the grumpy curmudgeons  ). But try to temper your need for endless detail.

By the way, I don't know how old you are (my guess would be 19, based on your forum name), but let me offer a general observation coming from someone a little older than 19: Life is inherently uncertain and it is impossible to plan it out and control it with absolute precision. You should prepare for the future, but you shouldn't paralyze yourself into inaction by trying to account for every possible outcome. That is a good way to let life pass you by.

You have said your personality is one that requires you to know every little detail, at least when it comes to computers. That may or may not be appropriate in the computer realm - I will leave that to personal preference - but I would really urge you not to let that personality trait control your greater life in general. You could cheat yourself out of a lot that life has to offer.

Take care,

cfitz
