Need help choosing CDRW please help

Burn baby burn!

Need help choosing CDRW please help

Postby dvohwinkel on Sun Dec 15, 2002 9:18 pm

I have been reading reviews for a couple of weeks and am more confused than ever...

This is what mattters to me...

Read speed
Writing quality
Disk compatability (Memorex, TDK, etc..)
Error Handling (Buffer underrun, bad media, scratched disks, etc..)
Ability to read Lead in/Lead Out, Sub channel... etc.. etc.. For CloneCD...
Noise

I am not too concerned with being about to write a CD in 2:30...
Mt. Rainier support and being able to backup my copy protected games is important.

So what drives should I be checking out more closely?

Thanks

Lite On LTR-52246S (52x24x52x).

It's got everything.

2 sheep from Clone CD's supported writers: http://www.elby.ch/english/products/clo ... tml#liteon
I've been running it with Clone CD since I bought it. It copies everything I've tried (SafeDisc 2.x). MS Flight Sim 2002 & Combat Flight Sim 2 etc.

It writes to everything, including CMC.

Read lead in & lead out: it overburns & handles 99 minute discs.

It has Smart Burn & buffer under run protection.

I did a user review of the drive here: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7271

Any idea if/when CDRlabs will have a nice review of the LiteOn 52x24x52?

Or has anyone seen any reviews anywhere else? Or aren't we allowed to talk about that?

Thanks

Also it looks like Firmware R526S07 was released on Dec 4th 2002 for the LiteOn 52x24x52. http://www.liteonit.com/english/index-english.htm

Here is a preview Ian wrote about the Memorex 52x24x52:

The Memorex is a rebadged LiteOn.

There's an excellent review of the Lite-ON LTR-52246S here. A lot of info there.

Ian has reviewed a Lite-On 52x24x52 (LTR-52246S). It was under the Cendyne 52x24x52 review. Cendyne used a Lite-On drive for its 52x model. It's a Lite-On drive straight out of the box, and both Windows and Nero will identify it as a Lite-On LTR-52246S too.

Spazmogen and myself both have the LiteON 52x.

For me, like my rebadged 24x LiteON, the 52x burns most media pretty well as long as the media isn't of inferior quality.

So far Taiyo Yuden, CMC, Ritek, Kodak, Fornet International, Proformance and a few other media haven't gone wrong for me.

Dave, just a suggestion to give your question better visibility: Put the complete question in the post, rather than leaving part of it in the subject. Personally, I very rarely notice the subject lines in replies to threads because the typeface is so small and they tend to get lost in the status information. I don't know if others are the same as I am, but I would bet I am not the only one who misinterpreted your last question to mean "anyone have a LiteOn 52x drive?"

I will restate your question just to make sure everyone knows what you were really asking:
