AT&T 40X 80 Mins - 99 cents after 2 rebates at Best Buy

AT&T 40x 80min CD-R's
$14.99 - $8 MIR & another $6 MIR = 99 cents

From what I have read here the gray spindles are made by Ritek, the black spindles are made by CMC. Correct?

Correct, the picture you have shown is that of a Ritek spindle. I've used both CMC and Ritek discs packaged under the AT&T brand, and they both perform well. No complaints here. Furthermore, they are true to their rebates: both Best Buy and AT&T. Actually, the manufacturer's rebate will come from Verbatim, not AT&T.

Is the picture of the actual product? It shows 1X-24X.

The packaging looks exactly the same - the speeds have been upgraded to 40X. Havent seen any 48X yet.

One thing I noticed is that disk on the packaging looks just like a Verbatim Metal AZO with the dark blue ink.

Very good observation, BillyG. :) Although the disc shown in the photo uses cyanine dye, the discs inside use pthalocyanine dye. The product, in that regard, is misleading. Nevertheless, the discs are good enough quality that it doesn't matter which dye they use.

The CMC made AT&T's have a hard top coating and the quality is on par with the discs they make for TDK and Imation.

But I still reccomend getting the Riteks - the AT&T CMC's I bought earlier this year had a hard time burning at 40X speeds in my Lite On 48x12x48x. Too many errors, though they worked fine burned at 32x.
