Which of these TDK's would be better?

Burn baby burn!

Which of these TDK's would be better?

Postby Sharpedge on Fri Dec 27, 2002 1:35 pm

Best Buy has the new 52x24x52x for 99.99 and 20 mir. Or the 48x12x48x for 89.99 and 40mir. Provided I got my speeds right. Ones 52x and ones 48x. Any way would'nt the 48x be a better deal? I did see a sony 48x writer at Stapes but have a TDK right now and it works pretty good although a 24x writer.

Your input greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

I would say it really comes down to RW speeds. Would you be happier with 12x RW or 24x? The 4x difference in write speed isn't that big of a difference but it always looks cool to have the fastest one out there  .

Uhm, you might look at BB again they should have a 48x16/24x48 for $84.99 - $40MIR = $44.99. I picked one up yesterday.

You make the choice 52x24x52 for $80 or 48x24x48 for $45. Simple choice to me but it's your money. Also I think the 48x can run the 52x firmware so it runs at 52x24x52 also. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I have the TDK 48x one and I'm very happy with the drive. I would just get the 48x one because it has similar features as the 52x, except it writes CD-R's in a few seconds slower but it's at a much cheaper price. The 48x16x48 drive can be upgraded to 48x24x48 through firmware located on TDK's web-site. Both drives are also made by Lite-On, so they are very good drives.

Buddha, do you have the 48x16x48 firmware by chance? Which version is it? I'd be interested in adding it to my collection if I don't have it...

The TDK 48x16x48 firmware is S7D5. Sorry I didn't back up the firmware before flashing the drive to the current S7S5 firmware. I'm sure you can find it on the net somewhere. If I do get my hands on it, I'll let you know.
