I wouldn't use those Maxell discs if they paid me to take them.

Not sure who makes them, I know the 700MB 40X/48X Maxell discs with the green label are made by Ritek.

I got some 40x maxell's at cc and they wore TY. I don't remeber checking where they wore made. But they have the cloudy center, and get same low c1/c2 error rates as my fuji and memorex ty media on my liteon 48x. Smartburn ids them as TY.

So who do you think makes the 48x12x48 Pacific drive?

From the picture at Staples' website, it looks like a Lite-On drive. However, Pacific Digital has been known to use different manufacturers such as Benq (Acer) too. It's really random in what drive you get because you can't tell from the Pacific Digital Box, what's inside.

Mine pacific digital from staples was a liteon LTR 48125W.
I think you can tell if it's a liteon by the serial number on the box.
I don't have the drive handy know, someone else might know better for sure, but mine was all digits no letters and it's 12 to 16 characters long.
You can always buy the drive and return it right away if its not a lite on.
Also I think there is a smartburn logo on the box.

That's an easy way to tell if its a Lite-On drive or not.

Staples also has a Cendyne 48x12x48x Internal CD-RW Drive for $39.98
Cendyne 48x12x48x Internal CD-RW Drive
$69.98 - $30 Mail-In Rebate = $39.98
