Firmware Updates for an Internal CD-RW drive in a 2.0 Case

Postby taxman150 on Sat Dec 28, 2002 10:08 pm

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question, but if I bought an internal cd-rw drive and put it in a USB 2.0 external enclosure, would I run into any problems in downloading internal drive firmware updates?

I'm thinking of doing this with the TDK 48X16/24X48 internal drive that is going for $44.99 after rebate, but I don't want to buy it if the firmware updates aren't going to work on it since its in an external enclosure.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you,

If the firmware updates are DOS only, you will have problems. However, if the drive manufacturer has windows updaters, you shouldn't have any problems.

Are Liteon's and TDK's firmwide updates available in a Windows format? These are the two that I would consider.
