Problems with Philips CDD6911 48/16/48 CD-RW

Postby damon on Mon Dec 30, 2002 6:23 pm

Yesterday I get this new one CD-RW from Philips in bulk package and till now I have burned 8 CD-Rs and only two of them successful. I can't understand whether the problem is software or some hardware problem with the RW drive or my computer. I switched off DMA support of CD-RW and my current CD-ROM because a frend told me that this may be a problem... I don't understand really why but... actually there is some improvements after shutting down DMA support. Then I burned 2 CD-Rs with WinOnCD 5.0 (with support for CDD6911) but only at Track-at-Once mode. In Dics-at-Once tried to burn a disc and some problem appeared. I think that in TAO mode was no problem... I have no problem with burning and reading CD-RW all the time! Yesterday I burned some CD-Rs with Nero 5.5 and the burning procces finished but the disks cannot be read after. And the most strange situation was that one of the discs that burned with Nero I can read with my CD-ROM but not in CD-RW drive which burn it!! I think that this CR-RW drive is damaged..... The computer is Celeron 466 MHz, 256 RAM, 440BX.
And sorry for my poor english!

What language is that? I tried using a French, German, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian translator with no avail.

A good web based language translator

Transliterated Russian:

"I have a PHILIPS PCRW4816K and it works well. It wrote about 250 discs and only one turned out to be damaged. I don't know and haven't encountered your model. I think either parameter settings aren't too good or the burner isn't too good. Since I didn't encounter it, I think the Americans didn't either. Try asking at http://forum.ixbt.com/?id=31, maybe they will help."

Thank you, LasMet, for endorsing it! :D I should have added that it was unofficial, and that my Russian is quite rusty...

:o I know it's fun talking in another language but when you are in forums where most people understand English, please try and use English so that we all can understand. If you really like talking in your own language then say all that you want to and then also do an English translation underneath. Thanks.

LasMet:

Since you have just joined this forum, you may wish to reconsider whether your "cop-like" avatar is appropriate here. Please don't take it personally, but it remainds me of stern first-grade teachers.

I think it's a cool avatar of Cartman telling you to respect his authoritah! I remember Ankerson used that avatar too and nobody complained. I find it humorous. :)

damon: What brand of CD-R discs are you using with the Philips drive? Have you tried another brand of media?

It is actually one of the "official" CDRLabs avatars anyone can select from the Profile page - not an externally linked picture. So don't worry about it, LasMet. If that is the avatar you want to use, then use it.

As for you, KCK, a rap across the knuckles with a wooden ruler to you (just like your first grade teacher used to administer) for hassling our new member LasMet..

Sorry for the misunderstanding; of course LasMet may use what he wants. I only found it humorous that a new user should select an avatar "telling you to respect his authoritah!". In fact I woulnd't mind if cfitz opted for this avatar, especially when he wants to give me another well-deserved rap accross the knuckles! :D
