Norcent RW481

Postby aznjosh on Sun Dec 29, 2002 12:11 pm

ok, looks like Norcent just updated their website at norcent.com. they just added the RW481 but there are no specs. or anything for it except a new firmware. I downloaded the firmware and the programs looks pretty cool because I dont need to go to dos and do all that crap you need to do with mtkflash. But, for some reason, when i press flash drive, it says "This firmware version can not be updated." i used infotool on my cd-rw drive and it says the firmware version is 7.GE. its some firmware tat winxp installed automatically. i just e-mailed norcent technical support but i dont know if they will reply. Please help me out.

WinXP didn't install any firmware. Thats the firmware version the drive shipped with. Judging by the firmware version, your drive is based on a BenQ design. Norcent also has a Lite-On based drive. Make sure you're using the right firmware.

well, i know my Norcent is a RW481 and i heard it was a Benq. i dont think my cd-rw came with a firmware cause the only thing that happened when i plugged my cd-rw in was winxp detected new hardware and installed it. it doesn't even display the name of the cd-rw, it just says ATAPI CD-R/RW.

Windows XP may install drivers automatically, but it sure as heck doesn't flash the drive's firmware! And ATAPI CD-R/RW is the name of the CD-RW drive as far as Windows knows, that's probably the device ID in the firmware.

Cannot update firmware Norcent RW481

Postby silviobianchi on Mon Dec 30, 2002 11:02 pm

I have the same firmware version 7.GE , downloaded new version from norcent's website. But error " This firmware version can not be updated "
Noticed that flash utility is named 48x16. Maybe CDRW speed is updated to 16x or wrong flash utility has been posted.
