Burn baby burn!

Anyone have a Philips PCRW804?

Postby F1Pilot on Mon Jan 06, 2003 1:32 pm

I know that this is a relic, but does anyone have this? Just wondering if it can be "overclocked" or what. I'm going to use it at work, regardless. I'm wondering if I can get it to squeeze out a lil more speed.

804? Nope. The 804 is another name for the Philips OEM drive 4801 and cannot be overclocked, sorry :(

F1Pilot: Let me know what blank media works with the Philips CRW804. I know someone who owns one and she has very little success with another other than Maxell 650MB CD-RW discs. See if it can support 700MB discs, and if so, which kind burn data successfully. Thanks

Heya TheWizard...

I've used pretty much whatever is out there from jewel cased name brand (Maxell, Ricoh, Verbatim) to spindled unmarked stuff (TY, Ritek). I haven't had any problems with any particular brands. As far as 700MB stuff goes, I don't remeber burning one on the Philips. I think I have a 700 lying around somewhere. If I do, I do a burn and let you know.

hi,
i,ve also got a cdd4801 it used to take 40 min to burn a cd and success rate was only 60% rest of the time the system just froze then i upgraded firmware 2.5 by philips and now it only takes 10 min and no problems with 700 mb cds i,ve used different types of media i,d recommend upgrading firmware its not as difficult as i thought
i usually burn about 90-100 cds a week so far after firmware uprade 100% success in my case
i was interested in overclocking it aswell so if u find anything plz keep us posted
THANX
