Cendyne 48x12x48 from OfficeMax

Burn baby burn!

Cendyne 48x12x48 from OfficeMax

Postby Bonesdad on Thu Jan 23, 2003 12:00 am

Having trouble with this drive...When I run CDCopy (via Nero 5), the process nearly completes (99% of the write is finished) and the program aborts with "Write Failed at 48x". The same thing occurs if I write at slower speeds. I copy from a CDROM to the CDRW drive, so I thought I would take the CDROM down and just try the copy with the RW drive...same result. (Yes, both drives are configured correctly with the RW as the Master and the CDRom as Slave).

Then I uninstalled Nero and installed CD Creator 4. CD Creator 4 won't even recognize that a CDRW drive is present!

I also downloaded a firmware update from Cendyne for this product, but when I try to run it, it tells me that this is not the right drive for the firmware (it is...i checked the part #, serial # several times).

Anyone have any ideas???

What is your current firmware, and what is the model name/number of your drive?

Re: firmware etc

It is listed as a Cendyne CDICD000118 or something close to that. When I download the firmware for that model from the Cendyne website, it calls it LTR48125W, but the firmware wont update it. Current firmware is 1.01. It shows on my System Hardware as a 48x12x50...hmmm. I KNOW the model I bought was 48x12x48.

The box says 48X12X48, but the drive is in fact 48X12X50 made by Aopen, not Lite-On. You need to download the correct firmware for this drive based on the Aopen CRW-4850. Visit this web site for the firmware you need.

Those updates wont work for his drive Wiz. There are updates from cendyne for your drive (which is an AOpen OEM) here:1.04 Windows, or 1.04 DOS. From the bottom of this page.
The official AOpen firmware will refuse to flash your drive. Please give real information next time, when I asked you for the Drive's ID, I didn't want a guess.

Here's what the ALT says:
If you have a Aopen drive customer, with firmware v1.01 for the 48x12x50 and you want to upgrade to the latest firmware, but the AOpen installer won't work since it's an OEM drive, download this firmware.

Are you sure about that? (I bow to your greater knowlege if you are ;)) All Aopen drives I've used in the past have been quite happy to accept OEM firmwares and vice-versa -- there is an internal model number stamped into each firmware file which is checked against the drive -- I don't think these model numbers change for OEM versions. Certainly the Everspring 40x I have in my collection reflashed to an Aopen drive with no complaints, and back again no bother either.

AOPEN?

Postby Bonesdad on Thu Jan 23, 2003 10:31 am

It wasnt exactly a guess...that is the drive model #, I didnt have it in front of me. When I downloaded the drive firmware for the model I have from Cendyne, the firmware states it is for the LTR48125W, not an AOpen drive. Seems to me Cendyne is making a guess about which drive I have...looks like they sell several drives under the same model...I will try the firmware flash. I'll report back later...

Yeah, they're probably just too lazy to print different boxes. And, of course, they know that everyone would go for the Lite-ONs and they want to sell some AOpens too!

LiteOn/Cendyne

Postby Bonesdad on Thu Jan 23, 2003 3:01 pm

Very true...in fact the label on the outside of the box had the LTR model number on it. The drive itself had no model # on it except 48x12x50x. The firmware update took, but have not had a chance to try a new CD copy. THanks for your help.

AOPEN 48x12x50 CD-RW confusion

Postby rramsey718 on Fri Jan 24, 2003 9:50 pm

I had the same problem with a CD-RW I bought at OfficeMax under the Verbatim label. I found that AOPEN has the 48x12x50 CDRW-4850 but that firmware update did not work for me. I backtracked it to Cendyne but could not find the OEM upgrade for this, so I tried the one provided earlier in this thread and it actually took and WORKS great. much better than the sluggish performance I had before.

Thanks for the info, it was very useful.
